Disability Equality

RSS

Disability is a normal condition of mankind (World Health Organisation). “Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others” (UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, article 1, 2nd par. http://www.un.org/disabilities/default.asp?id=259)
Disability Equality means to combat discrimination based on disability and to promote equal opportunities for disabled people. Accessibility of goods and services, reasonable adjustments, Design for All, the removal of physical and attitudinal barriers, are key elements of policies aimed at ensuring the enjoyment of equal rights and the full participation of disabled persons in society and economy.
